Once again, the earth has revolved around a sun, and we're back to the beginning. Fresh starts and all that jazz. I've spent a few days at the end of 2012 sitting around and thinking about my life (as I am sure some of you did as well). I made list after list after list to create a better 2013. A list of things I love, a list of things I want to stop doing, things I fear, on and on. Here's where I got stumped though...I couldn't write the list of things I wanted to accomplish in 2013. I could write one or two things, but when I pressed further I kept hitting a wall.
Then I took a different approach; I wrote a list of how I want to feel in 2013. What do I want to feel, and what can I do that will help me generate that feeling? Now that was a surprisingly easy list to make. I pretty quickly came up with five simple feelings that felt very "me." For each feeling on that first list, I was able to generate another list of a few actions that would support those specific feelings. Instead of creating resolutions based on what I wanted to achieve, I created a list of actions that will support how I want to feel.
One example:

One example:
- I want to feel Generous: Giving back to my community in a positive, productive way will make me feel generous: Volunteering at a legal clinic is a way to give back to my community in a positive, productive way.
Then I looked at my life list, and found additional items that would support those feeling. If the life list item supported one of my five chosen feelings, then it made it onto the priority list of the year. If it didn't, it stayed on the life list, but I don't plan on taking any immediate action towards making it happen i 2013.
I'm not done yet, but there is no rush, I still have 361 days left to prosper and be great. I'll get it together, and share here when I've figured out more. Hopefully before I know it, I will be feeling the way I want to feel, and loving the life I live.
Did you create resolutions this year? If you blogged about your resolutions, or your process for getting there, post a link in the comments.
That's a good idea. It's another way to align your life choices/goals with your values. I think that kind of balance leads to true happiness.
